I think it’s fair to say that most people think of owning art as not only owning something beautiful to look at but maybe a way to demonstrate power, wealth or society standing, just that feeling of having something that no one else has gives us a certain magical feeling I think. Do you agree?
I for one definitely feel that Extra-large artworks have a power all of their own to amaze and draw us in, to inspire even. I think anything big has always been associated with better, again history tells us this. Think of homes, some people buy large homes because they feel it’s better, a status thing. Art is the same.
Large art is popular and only growing in its popularity as more people see the value in owning it. In the 1950’s big art started to rise in popularity again in the pop art era but the antiquity of large-scale artworks is still very much relevant today.
Is Art for big walls really better?
There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to Art in your home, I always say in art the rules are, there are no rules. The style of art that you like is subjective and beauty is dependent on the person viewing the painting. Having an extra large painting in your space can be overpowering depending on it’s size and colours for that specific space so choose wisely. Having said this, big art can be impressive in the right space.

Choose where to hang big art
- Having Large wall art in a smaller space can actually be a great way to optimize the space. I suggest focussing on a few large standout elements and this allows the space to feel more open, spacious and less cluttered.
- First step is to recognize a wall space that’s big enough to support large art. Reorganizing a space to allow you to hang big art will help. Great space for large art can include bedroom and hallways althought lounge area is often a popular choice. Above mantel areas or even spaces between windows are a nice choice for artworks too.
- People often think of Large wall art is a one giant canvas but it doesn’t have to be one painting, it can be spread across a few smaller canvases which can look amazing. A good option if you are trying to fill a very large wall. It can actually end up looking cooler than one solid canvas painting.
- Another good option is to have some type of sculptural 3D element to the artwork. This is a different way of expressing creativity and your own personality in a room. The texture of the sculptural artwork add unique visual interest as the pieces shines or sticks out from the wall itself. This type of art can be a strong focal point which is often the aim for a large space.
Getting involved and doing things properly
Whatever your ideas for artwork for your home or office are, it is always a great idea to ask the artist for their thoughts on things and work together on making your dream artwork a reality. For me selling art is not just a business, it is a journey and a relationship with the client. At the heart of what I do, I am trying to get to the core of what art it is that you want and make this a reality for you!
I am always to do a site visit first and we can discuss things while in the space. This allows me to get a real-life idea of the sizes and feel of the room. It can really help us both with our journey to making you the best artwork possible. I am able to talk to you about how large we can go with the space that you have and the impact the art will have on the space.
I will be able to see or hear from you how light comes into the room throughout the day and we can talk through colours, tones and textures for your art or even if you wish to match it to your interior furnishings. This is not a problem at all.
Let’s move forward and start this art journey together now
